Common questions.

The questions you'd ring and ask, answered straight — including the ones that aren't flattering.

Before you sign up

What changes about the way you already work, and what doesn't.

Your number

Do I keep my own number?

Yes. Nothing about your mobile changes. You set unanswered calls to divert to the Australian mobile number that comes with Toby, and that number does the texting.

Your diary

What if it books a time I can't work?

Your hours, your breaks, your closed days and anything already sitting in your calendar are checked before a time is ever offered, and checked again in the step that saves it.

Your other apps

I already use a job-management app.

Toby doesn't replace it and doesn't try to. It writes the visit into your Google Calendar, so if the app you already use reads that calendar, the booking turns up there too.

When it goes wrong

The answers that matter are the ones about the bad day, not the good one.

Two callers

What if two people want the same slot?

The check and the save happen in one locked step, so only one of them gets it. The other is told that time has gone and asked for another — never told whose job took it.

Emergencies

What about a real emergency?

Gas, flooding or no power and Toby stops trying to book a quote visit entirely. It sends the caller the emergency number you nominate, or 0001.

Its limits

What if Toby doesn't know the answer?

It books the visit so you can answer it on site. It will not guess a price, promise a repair, or invent a detail about your business to fill a gap.

Getting it wrong

What if it tells someone they're booked and they're not?

It can't. Toby is only allowed to say a customer is booked once the job has actually saved. If the words slip out anyway, they're caught and replaced before the text is sent.

Your customers

Can a customer stop the texts?

Any reply of STOP opts that number out on the spot, and it is never texted again — not a booking, not a reminder. That's what the Spam Act asks of every message you send2.

A big month

What if I get a heap of bookings?

They're A$39 each, added up and invoiced at the end of the month. Only bookings Toby made himself count — not ones you enter, and not one the customer cancels within 24 hours3.

Getting better

Does Toby get smarter?

Yes, if you turn it on. Once a month Toby reads back every conversation it had for you and retunes its own wording to match your jobs, your services and the questions your customers actually ask. It's an optional add-on at A$39 a month on top of your plan. Every change is recorded and can be undone, and the rules that keep Toby careful are never part of what it can change.

  1. Toby is not an emergency service. It sends the caller the emergency number you nominate, or 000.
  2. Spam Act 2003 (Cth). Toby records the opt-out and blocks every later message to that number, including bookings and reminders.
  3. A booking is one Toby puts in your calendar himself. Bookings you enter yourself are never charged, and neither is one the customer cancels within 24 hours. Bookings are added up and charged at the end of each calendar month.
